Application: AR or FR clothing?
AR: Arc level
AR clothing (anti-arc clothing) is designed to protect workers from arc flash hazards. Arc flash is a sudden, intense heat and energy release. It occurs when an electrical device fails.
Electricians often need to wear arc protective clothing. They are most likely to be affected by arc flash hazards. Arc protection suits help protect these workers. The overalls are constructed to resist ignition. They won't burn or catch fire.
FR: flame retardant
FR clothing is designed to protect workers from fire-related hazards. FR clothing is not as resistant to ignition as AR clothing. If exposed, FR will catch fire. But its purpose is to self-extinguish. So it won't continue to burn after the initial event.
AR and FR clothing are very similar, except that AR clothing can provide you with a higher level of protection. All AR garments are flame retardant, but not all FR garments are arc resistant. When purchasing an FR sets, you need to know if your employees need AR-level protection.
According to the general technical requirements of DL/T 320-2010 personal arc protection products, the protection level of arc protection clothing is generally ATPV value. The layer has an ATPV value of 4, a second layer of 8, a third layer of 25, and a fourth layer of 40.
When you choose to choose FR flame retardant suits or arc protection suits, you need to understand a problem. Chemical flame retardant and inherent flame retardant fabrics are different. At present, the main flame retardant fabrics are: chemical treated flame retardant fabrics, such as 100% cotton, polyester cotton, etc.; inherent flame retardant fabrics, such as aramid, modacrylic cotton, Kevlar, Australia PR97, etc. Generally, the inherent flame-retardant fabrics cost more than chemical-flame-resistant fabrics, but the overall production of flame-retardant fabrics is more durable than treated-flame-resistant fabrics. The inherent flame-retardant overalls will not lose their flame retardant properties after repeated washings.
